Researching trade occupations from a labour market point of view

 

The first phase of the TIPTOE-project is dedicated to the labour market perspective. It’s goal is to get a clear insight and understanding of correspondences and differences between occupational requirements in Europe from the labour market’s point of view. Eight partners investigated the occupational situation in the trade sector of their own country and conducted interviews with stakeholders such as workers in the field or representatives from companies or sector organizations (e.g. HR manager, labour consultant).

 

On the basis of these interviews each partner constructed occupational profiles for four central occupations within the trade sector.

 

For retail:

Shop Assistant (SA) , Shop Manager (SM);

 

For wholesale:

Logistics Assistant (LA) , Logistics Manager (LM).

The construction of the profiles was guided by strict rules based on the EQF-format and terminology. The resulting occupational profiles were assessed in two roundes. Firstly, in terms of the format and development rules, by KCH and BZSH as coordinating partners for WP2. This resulted in a set of comments and suggestions to the draft profiles. Secondly, in terms of content, by a survey among retail and wholesale employers and employees. On the basis of the survey results and the comments of KCH and BZSH definitive profiles have been developed and validated by the respective sector organizations.
