A group of independent experts was established in March 2009 to advice the Commission on how to advance the New Skills for New Jobs agenda.
This conference highlighted the key recommendations of the expert group report.

"the Restructuring Toolbox": final conference: 27/01/2010, Brussels, Belgium

Thanks to recent projects, works, forums and seminars, the toolbox have been built by European researchers, practitioners and regions to:
| • | present and describe more than fifty tools characteristic of the European knowledge and knowhow in anticipating and managing restructuring; |
| • | provide actors, professionals and researchers with a guide and a method to compare them and allow their translation into other contexts and countries than the one they have been first implanted in. |

Restructuring forum - Sectors' New Skills for New Jobs 7-8/12/2009-Brussels, Belgium

The principal objective of the forum, organised by the European Commission in cooperation with the European Parliament, the European Economic and Social Committee and the Committee of the Regions, is to disseminate the results of the 18 sectoral studies. Day One (Prepare for the jobs and skills of the future) will set the scene for discussion and debate between the stakeholders on the role of skills needs anticipation in employment, education and training, policy making and practices, and on how and by whom this should be done. Workshops will offer the opportunity for participants to listen to the presentations of good practices and discuss further some of the recommendations laid down in the studies. New! Registration open

The “Going Local to Respond Employment Challenges” project aims to integrate training and active employment-related policies in order to accomplish actions at regional level, targeting policies and services that anticipate company crisis situations, and also to institute a community of professionals and practices that will allow permanent benchmarking to be established in the training environments dealt with by this project.The conference, organized in partnership with the Committee of the Regions, will present the main outcomes of this mutual learning project: a “catalogue” of activities, services and operational tools. In many countries, young people, especially young labour market entrants, are the group most vulnerable to the negative effects of recent economic events. Increasingly, they find themselves entering a slackening labour market characterized by massive lay-offs. Their educational qualifications may give them a relative advantage vis-à-vis other groups hit by the economic crisis. Nevertheless, they must also cope with the effects of enterprises restructuring, restrictions on hiring, and employer demands for increasing flexibility. This flexibility can take different forms: the employment contract offered to young people, the nature of the jobs they obtain which are often not commensurate with their level of education or their skills, the level of pay, part-time work, and so on
