The Flemish Agency for Entrepreneurial Training - SYNTRA Flanders is a public agency, depending of the Flemish Department of Work and Social Economy. SYNTRA Flanders is, in the Flemish Region, the agency responsible for the co-ordination of the training towards entrepreneurship. Its approach is based on alternating learning and SYNTRA Flanders takes care of young people and adults who wish to obtain qualifications to set up their own business. SYNTRA Flanders works towards more and better entrepreneurship, in particular with the SYNTRA training centres, but the agency is also working as a hub for other entrepreneurial training providers in Flanders.
The SYNTRA training centers offer three levels of qualifying training courses:
The apprenticeship contract: aimed at young people who want to participate in an alternating training scheme, that is to say to attend a number of theoretical and technical lessons one day a week in a training centre and to work, for 4 days a week in an SME.
Entrepreneurial training as to become entrepreneur or company manager: this training (tackling both business administration issues as technical vocational aspects) course supplies all the basic knowledge and required competences to become self-employed or to set up one’s own company.
Continuing training allowing SME’s and their key employees to keep up with the level of skills in their various disciplines (life-long learning).
This training is provided in 22 local training centres in Flanders, organized in 5 SYNTRA, dealing with 120.000 people participants and more than 5000 trainers a year.
SYNTRA Flanders as a hub for entrepreneurial training in Flanders stimulates partnerships between different actors in this field, in order to built a knowledge centre (www.competento.be), to set up a target-group oriented training approach and to stimulate the entrepreneurial competences within the Flemish educational system.
