CEEP,
whose origins go back to 1961, is an international association
consisting of all companies or organizations with public participation
or which carry out activities of general economic interest,
whatever their legal or ownership status. |

The CES
is an advisory body that gives Europe's economic and social
partners (its employers, trade unions, representatives of small
businesses, farmers' associations, consumers and the professions,
to name but a few) the chance to issue their formal opinion
on EU policies and thus give them a dimension that is both pragmatic
and consensual. |

The process of European integration,
including recent developments such as the single Market and
Economic and Monetary Union, is fundamentally changing the setting
in which European Trade Unions operate. This integrated economic
area must be matched by a social and collective bargaining dimension
which can safeguard and promote workers’ rights and to achieve
this, trade unions must be capable of speaking with a single
voice at a European level. This is the challenge which the European
Trade Union Confederation has taken up. |
